Rebuilding Greensburg, Kansas

On May 4th, 2007, a tornado tore through the humble town of Greensburg, Kansas. Though 95% of the town was razed and 11 lives were lost, the local community hopes to turn tragedy into good fortune….make that green fortune. Out of the rubble, the citizens of Greensburg plan to rebuild an entirely eco-friendly community.

The story has attracted the attention of the Discovery Channel, who in conjunction with producer Leo DiCaprio, are airing a 13-part mini-series on the reconstruction efforts aptly entitled Greensburg. Premiering on Saturday, May 3 @ 8PM, the show features the town’s portly mayor, the bold city planner, and a passionate high school senior all hoping to redefine how we rebuild. Forget “bigger and better”; it’s about time we embraced “brighter and bolder” ideas like this. — Johnny
