Hypermiling Hype

May 1, 2008

With gas prices hitting record-highs almost every day, the American driver is facing desperate times. Accordingly, motorists are calling upon a number of novel fuel-saving measures to pinch pennies at the pump. Known as hypermiling, these tactics equip them with both quick fixes and more drastic driving solutions. For instance, by keeping your tires fully pumped, avoiding idling and using low-viscosity oil, one can easily improve their gas mileage. Advanced techniques such as “Pulse & Glide” and “Warp Stealth”, however, might be a stretch for an average Joe unfamiliar with automobile aerodynamics.
